Jared grew up in Harlem, where he experienced
firsthand the unique challenges faced by young, Black men in underserved communities. These
experiences impressed upon him the absolute necessity to give back to the community that was so
instrumental in shaping him - through education. After graduating from Wesleyan University in 2002,
Jared spent the next five years working with Harlem Children’s Zone as a college counselor and mentor.
While pursuing his doctorate at Binghamton University, Jared continued his mission to level the playing
field by reducing educational barriers for students of color. In addition to being a mentor and tutor,
Jared served on the Presidential Search Committee and received the Chancellor’s Graduate Student
Award for Excellence in Service and Outreach.
Currently, Jared is the site director for Jacobi Medical Center’s Predoctoral Psychology Internship
Program. Prior to Jacobi, Jared was a full time psychologist with Montefiore Medical Center’s
Supporting Healthy Relationships Program, where he led psychoeducational workshops with under-
served couples. He taught empirically-supported techniques to improve communication between
partners, reduce conflict, manage stress, and improve parenting.
Outside of work, Jared enjoys watching and collecting film, playing basketball, and “circling the wagon”
for the Buffalo Bills!
